Back to work after an absolutely fabulous week spent in the western part of our great state of North Carolina. The worst part of vacation is the last day, packing up our campsite had me feeling like I wanted to stay there forever. I was very sad to have this trip come to an end. First impressions are so important and from the moment we booked our stay, we had good vibes. I am so thankful we found this location. Indian Creek Campground in Cherokee, NC has been put on the top of our favorite campgrounds list. Owners and camp hosts were friendly and helpful, treated us like family the entire time. Quiet, clean and just plain gorgeous. Everything we expected and more. It is a definite re-do.
It is located about 10-15 miles outside of Cherokee and if you are looking for a great place for some forced downtime, this is your place. Be prepared for no WiFi and no cell phone service at all, but that was just fine with us. Our site was perfect. We were set up in no time; the site was very level and so roomy! We only needed one leveling block and never had to unhook the trike trailer all week. The camp hosts even delivered our firewood! The road leading to the campground was under construction the entire time, so it took us about 20 minutes to navigate down to Cherokee each day, the ride is so beautiful, we didn’t mind at all, even saw a huge bull elk grazing on the side of the road a few evenings. A little intimidating on the trike, but amazing to see such a beautiful creature.
One of my bucket list items for this trip was to cook chicken over a campfire. Guess what? I found a great recipe on Pinterest and it turned out absolutely amazing! Check out the recipe from Let’s Camp S’More. It was easier to do than I thought, we even threw some baking potatoes directly into the fire. We ended up with a delicious gourmet dinner. I felt so accomplished! I finished up the leftover chicken today for lunch and decided this needs to be a do over for our next trip. What’s on your bucket list?
The quote in my planner from last week was a perfect compliment for our week:
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better. ~ Albert Einstein
I’ll be posting more from this trip soon so be sure to check back and find out what locations we visited and the beautiful things we collected along the way.
