Christmas In July

Christmas in July

This week has been the hottest week of the year with temperatures in the nineties and the heat index above one hundred. Hard to imagine a ride on the trike in these extreme conditions but we sure did! It has been too long since we last rode. So why not head to our beautiful outer banks? We really managed very well in the heat. The key to surviving these temperatures is to drink, drink, drink. Water and more water will help prevent heat exhaustion, and trust me, heat exhaustion is absolutely no fun. Water is key! Our intention was to ride out for a nice burger at one of the hot spots in Nags Head, but you don’t really have an appetite in these extreme temps. So no burger, just one very tasty pina colada smoothie. But hey, pina colada smoothies remind me of snow. Snow is cold, and when in high humidity climates, it helps to think COLD. Plus, there is ALWAYS room for ice cream! I didn’t have any trouble drinking it to the very last drop.

You can’t head to the outer banks in July without hitting up the Christmas Shop in Manteo. It really helps keep you feeling cool stepping into this shop; all the beautiful ornaments, Christmas music playing in every room, all the different themed trees, air conditioning helps too. It even smells like Christmas. I almost bought the feature image mermaid ornament, just because she was decked out in red, white and blue. But I really don’t want to start a new collection. Since she would have been my first mermaid, I would feel compelled to look and/or purchase a few more when I see some that catch my eye. So I did the next best thing and grabbed a photo instead. I did purchase an ornament but I will probably display it all year. Can you guess what it is? Did you guess sea turtle? If you did, you were right. I have been collecting them for a while and had to have this one. I like that I have not seen anything like it. I just couldn’t resist.

I tried to buy a set of lantern tree lights too, but they didn’t have anymore, and wouldn’t sell me the display strands. I have already been searching Amazon looking for them or something similar. So far no luck. In case you were wondering, Christmas is just five months away. Time to start checking that list off. Every year I say I’m going to start my shopping in July, but have never actually done it. Maybe this year is the year? I know my Pinterest feed will start to fill up with crafty items that I intend to make. Keep an eye out and if you create a Pinterest craft, send me the pin or a photo! While you are there, check out some of my other boards. And don’t forget to follow me there. I’m always adding a new Pinterest find.
