December is always such a hustle and bustle; black Friday shopping (this should be recognized as a full contact sport), cyber Monday, charity fundraisers, toy drives, you name it, everyone seems to be trying to cash in on the spirit of Christmas. For me, the best part of the season is the spirit of giving, not so much the size or cost of the gift, but the thought behind it. As I began making my list this year, I quickly realized there were more people on it than I could afford to shop for. As I reflected on past years, I remembered fondly year’s where I made gifts for everyone. Homemade ornaments, baked goodies and knitted scarves to name a few. Unfortunately, time is something I just don’t have a lot of to spare these days, so knitting scarves for everyone was just not in the cards. I love to bake, but somewhere along the way, I had stopped baking. So for the last twelve days before Christmas, I baked cookies and shared them with everyone on my extended list. I pulled out old recipes, found some new one’s on Pinterest, and for twelve days, I baked. By day five, I had people asking me what tomorrow’s cookie was. They were excited! This was so much fun, it seemed to bring a little bit of happiness to everyone which in turn brought me great joy. This is definitely a tradition I will continue next year.
