Sylvan Heights Bird Park

This day trip destination has been on my bucket list for a while, a great opportunity to get on the trike and ride! Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck, North Carolina is a great day trip destination sitting on 18 acres, surrounded by tranquil gardens and bordered by natural wetlands. A chance to get up close and personal with all types of winged creatures in the various walk through aviaries. Plenty of photo opportunities with over 2,000 waterfowl, parrots, toucans, flamingos and other exotic birds from around the world. Be sure to check out the cockatoos, they will dance up a storm for you! This place is amazing but be prepared with a picnic lunch; it is in the middle of nowhere! The site has several picnic areas, a playground with a fossil dig for the children, clean restrooms and plenty of parking. Enter through the visitors center and check out some of the incubating and newly hatched eggs. A truly wonderful experience.

Sylvan Heights is open Tuesday- Sunday year round. Closed Mondays, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
